They also just happen to be testicles. The bottles are located in an artist's studio and the characters are the creations of the artist. The hand, the artist, creates another male character for the woman to save her from loneliness. Obsessively collected images found in thrift stores and flea markets are animated to create an alternate American aeronautical and cultural history. Through the gaps in these isolated moments of time, The Drift collages together a history of expansion and the desire to push too far, too fast. As the process of the character’s attempt to escape develops, captivating graphics begin to emerge the wall. These elements follow (and sometimes attack) the character. The conflict between the two and the environment literally grows out of control and leads us to the resolution. Originally created as a poem by the director, it was turned into a short animated film created in the UCLA Animation Workshop. Slowly the family is drawn away from their regular activities by the new device. Meals are no longer cooked but bought--prepackaged and frozen. Board games are forsaken for watching other people enjoy themselves.
